One-day tourism around Tbilisi
If you’re in Georgia and would like to take a day trip, we suggest this private tour with an English-speaking guide to visit the town of Sighnaghi, which overlooks the Alazani valley.
You’ll also cross the Alazani valley to reach and visit a famous Georgian vineyard. And, of course, you’ll be able to taste typical Georgian wines.
A short, one-day tour of one of Georgia’s most beautiful towns, Sighnaghi, to get a taste of what this region of Georgia, known among other things as its main wine-growing area, has to offer.
Departure from Tbilisi and transfer to Bodbé monastery
1h50
Just before entering Sighnaghi, you’ll visit the Bodbé monastery and convent.
Bodbé is one of Georgia’s most important religious sites. Saint Nino, who evangelized Georgia in the 4th century, is buried in this monastery.
The site is superb, overlooking the Alazani valley and the High Caucasus mountain range.
Transfer to Sighnaghi.
20mn 10mn
Visit to Sighnaghi.
Sighnaghi is one of Georgia’s most attractive cities. Its architecture, with its colorful balcony houses, its dominant position at the top of a hill overlooking the vast Alazani plain, and its view of the high, snow-capped Caucasus mountains (weather permitting!) make it unique and a must-see. These advantages give it a certain charm.
You can stroll around the town, take a walk on the ramparts, visit the museum, stroll around the main square, … and have lunch there.
Transfer to Khareba vineyard
1h30 1h
Arrive at the Khareba vineyard for a tour explaining the grape varieties and ancestral winemaking methods still used by Georgians (Qvevri winemaking). Afterwards, you’ll taste a variety of wines while a local sommelier explains the different Georgian winemaking techniques. The estate has 7 kms of constant-temperature tunnels to store 25,000 bottles of a wide variety of grape varieties endemic to the region. A must-see!
Transfer to Grémi
30mn 15mn
Gremi is a Unesco World Heritage Site. Although the town was razed to the ground by the Persians, its walled church, built in 1565, remains. His site is superb. This is an exceptional church, with frescoes all the way down to the floor.
Transfer to Telavi
20mn 20 mn
You’ll stop at Telavi to see this famous 900-year-old plane tree (Chadari). Indeed, this tree has withstood all these years not only age, but also numerous wars and political and economic events. For a long time, it was a cultural center under which Georgians would dine and poets would recite their verses.
Then visit the Batonis-Tsikhe museum and fortress.
Completely renovated in 2018, Batonis-Tsikhe, which means “the lord’s castle (Batoni)”, was built between the 17th and 18th centuries. You’ll see manuscripts, Georgian art, ethnographic objects, military artefacts and more. This tour will give you a good overview of Georgia’s history.
